PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a wiping sheet disintegrating in water, having sufficient disintegrability in water as well as high wet strength and disposable in a flush toilet by coating a sheet material with a water-soluble cellulose ether free from carboxyl group and impregnating an electrolyte into the sheet. SOLUTION: A sheet material composed of a pulp, a natural fiber or a synthetic fiber is coated with 0.1-20g/m<2> of a water-soluble cellulose ether free from carboxyl group and the coated sheet is dried in an oven. The sheet is sprayed with 3-30wt.% of an aqueous solution of an electrolyte such as sodium sulfate to convert the water-soluble cellulose ether on the sheet surface into a gelatinous thin film and obtain the objective sheet disintegrating in water. |
