A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving ACK/NACK signals to support HARQ(Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest) for multi-layer transmission are provided to execute flexible forward resource allocation by utilizing conventional ACK/NACK transmission resource. An apparatus for transmitting and receiving ACK/NACK signals to support hybrid automatic repeat request for multi-layer transmission includes a controller(903) and a transmitting module. The controller includes input positions which are grouped by each layer for transmitting data streams and selects one of DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) input positions mapped at data channels transmitted the data streams among input position groups of the DFT. The transmitting module transmits ACK/NACK response signals on the received data streams through the DFT input positions selected by the controller.
