1277462 Treating iron-bearing ores ANGLO AMERICAN CORP OF SOUTH AFRICA Ltd 24 Sept 1969 [26 Sept 1968] 47023/69 Headings C1A and C1N Iron bearing material, e.g. ores, containing metallic iron, or iron salts, are treated by mixing the material with a solution of an iron salt, and passing an oxygen containing gas through the mixture. The iron salt solution may contain a ferrous, or a ferric salt, but ferrous salts such as FeSO 4 , FeCl 2 are preferred. Suitable gases are air and oxygen. The treatment is preferably carried out at above 40‹ C. After carrying out the treatment, the solids, containing iron as iron hydrate are separated from the iron salt solution, which may be re-used, and subjected to a mechanical separation e.g. by means of hydrocyclones, flotation, tabling, elutriation, to remove the iron hydrate from the treated material. Materials suitable for this treatment include chromite, ilmenite and iron-bearing phosphate ores.
|
