Electric cable mfr. - where wound wire sheath is held in place by winding of consumable insulating tape

One or more layers of metal wire (a) are wound on a long core (b), esp. in the mfr. of cables or electric conductors, where the direction of lay or twist is continuously altered. The wires(a) are successively fed onto the core (b) and are directly covered in this zone by a consumable sleeve (c) wound onto the layer(s) of wire (a). Sleeve (c) is pref. a tape wound with a step length which is at its max. equal to the tape width; and the consumable sleeve (c) is pref. insulating tape provided on its surface facing wires (a) with substances increasing its resistance to friction, esp. a layer (c1) of adhesive. For mfg. a medium- or high- voltage cable, a layer of Cu tape is pref. wound on the core (b) before wires (a) to increase the transverse conductivity of the sheath (a) of wire. The pref. plant uses a row of winders applying the Cu tape, wires (a), and tape (c).
