PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as an intermediate for an antibiotic industrially advantageously without using dangerous reagents without causing wastes, etc. as by-products, by electrolyzing a specific penicillin derivative in an alcoholic solvent in the presence of a chloride. CONSTITUTION:A penicillin derivative shown by the formulaI(R<1> is H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, etc.; R<2> is free or protected carboxyl; R<3> is H or methoxy) is electrolyzed in an alcoholic solvent (a mixture of methanol and tertiary butyl alcohol, etc.) in the presence of a chloride (e.g., lithium chloride, etc.) using a platinum electrode, etc., extracted with a solvent such as chloroform, etc., and the solvent is eliminated, to give the desired compound shown by the formula II. |
