PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for drugs, their intermediates, a food additive, a surface active agent, etc. in high yield, by reacting catalytically a diethanolamine with ammonia or a primary amine in the presence of a heteropolyacid compound as a catalyst in a liquid phase. CONSTITUTION:A diethanolamine shown by the formulaI(R' is H, alkyl, or aryl) is reacted with a primary amine shown by the formula II (R<2> is H, alkyl, or aryl) in the presence of a heteropolyacid (a heteropolyacid containing at least one metal atom of especially W, Mo, and V, preferably a salt of a metal ofIor II group of periodic table of a heteropolyacid or its ammonium salt) under pressure of preferably 50-250kg/cm<2>.G in a liquid phase, to give piperazine or its derivative. EFFECT:The catalyst keeps a catalytic activity stably, and it can be used repeatedly. |
