PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for facilitating generation and use of a flat and broad-band Raman gain in an optical transmission system. SOLUTION: A flat and broad-band gain is obtained by using Raman amplification in which time-division multiplexed plural wavelengths are backward- pumped. By means of a frequency scanning method, it is possible to generate a flat gain (variation of 0.05% or less) over a gain bandwidth of 8 THz at least while making it possible to adjust a shape of a gain bandwidth required for solving drawbacks of various systems. Favorably, all of these conditions can be established and changed within milliseconds using a known and simple full-electronic control. |
