<p>Described is a new process for producing new 2-substituted alkyl-3-carboxycarbapenems, involving condensation of a 2-oxocarbapenam-3-carboxylic ester with a stabilized ylide followed by ester deblocking. The resulting carbapenem compounds, which are not readily available from other known synthetic routes, show interesting antibacterial activity.</p> |
