Energy saving solenoid circuit for actuating control devices e.g. gas exchange valves for IC engine

The circuit contains two electromagnets (solenoids) (1,2) at a distance apart, each contg. a coil (3.1,3.2) and magnet yoke (4.1,4.2) and each connected to a controlled d.c. current supply (9). The pole faces of the yokes face each other. A reciprocally movable armature (6) mounted between the pole faces is connected to the control element to be actuated and is held in its rest position between the electromagnets when carrying no current by spring elements (8.1,8.2). The armature consists of a material which retains residual magnetisation.
