PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new enzyme which can decompose harmful chlorinated aliphatic compounds, and to obtain the amino acid sequence and base sequence of the enzyme. SOLUTION: The perchloroethylene-dehalogenating enzyme originated from Clostridium bifermentans DPH-1, and the amino acid sequence and genetic base sequence of the enzyme were given by the present invention. The enzyme has a characteristic that a wide range spectrum of chlorinated aliphatic compounds as substrates are degraded.
