摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an aperture ratio and to prevent the decrease of a transmitted light quantity even if the density of circuit elements increases by reflecting the light of polarized light components and allowing the transmission thereof by a selective reflection member and forming a thin-film transistor(TFT), insulating film and pixel electrode on a substrate. SOLUTION: The light incident side of a reflection type liquid crystal cell 1 is provided with the selective reflection member 2 which reflects the light 53 of the first polarized light component and allows the transmission of the light 52 of the second polarized light component. This selective reflection member 2 reflects the light 53 of the fist polarized light component among the first and second polarized light components 53, 52 reflected by the reflection type liquid crystal cell 1 and allows the transmission of the light 52 of the second polarized light component. The TFT 15 is formed on the substrate 12 facing the substrate 11 on the light incident side of the reflection type liquid crystal cell 1 and the insulating film 16 is formed thereon. The pixel electrode 14 consisting of a reflection film connected to the TFT 15 is formed on the insulating film 16. The liquid crystal electro-optic element comprises the liquid crystal cell 1, a polarization beam splitter(PBS) 2, the upper and the lower substrates 11, 12, the transparent electrode 13, the reflection film 14, the TFT 15, the insulating film 16 and liquid crystals 17.
