PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the drop of projection system performance so as to prolong the service life of a product by avoiding the thermalization phenomenon of a polarizing plate, which occurs when illuminating a polarized beam by using the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The system includes a lamp emitting white light which is not polarized, a first polarizing beam splitter where an unnecessary P wave in light beams emitted from the lamp is made to pass through to be discharged to the outside of a system, an S wave used as illumination light in the system is reflected and a traveling direction is changed, a second polarizing beam splitter where a direction between an illumination system and a projection system is changed since light which is made incident from the first polarizing beam splitter is made to pass through and light which is reflected on reflection LCD and includes an image is emitted to the projection lens system and a color separation/synthesis system where the color of light passing through the second polarizing beam splitter is separated, and they are emitted to respective reflection LCD, light reflected on respective reflection LCD are color-synthesized, light is emitted to the second polarizing beam splitter and is made to advance to a projection lens. |
