This invention is a needle manipulation ruler (10) for use in brachy-therapy allowing a needle (42) containing radioactive material (44) to be manipulated without exposing the surgeon to radioactivity. A plurality of needle engagers (14, 16, 18) are contained on the needle manipulation ruler (10). These needle engagers (14, 16, 18) can be indentations (14, 16, 18) in the needle manipulation ruler (10) or protuberances (24, 26) on the needle engager (10). A needle (42) can be engaged with the needle engagers (14, 16, 18) by either inserting the needle (42) into the indentation (14) or by pressing the needle against the protuberance (24).
