摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water stop agent for cables having an excellent water absorbing performance even to an aqueous liquid containing metal ions having valences of two or more. SOLUTION: The water stop agent for cables consists of a water absorbing resin obtained by polymerizing a monomer in an aqueous solution, consisting of 50-90 mol% of a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer containing amino groups and 10-50 mol% of acrylic acid having a degree of neutralization of 40-100 mol% with an alkali metal in the presence of a crosslinking agent and a water-soluble radial polymerization initiator.
