PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a software maintenance system capable of automatically informing a software user of the execution of software maintenance, enabling the software user himself/herself to execute the maintenance operation of the software, and enabling timely software maintenance at a low cost. SOLUTION: This software maintenance system is operated between a user- side terminal and a maintenance center having a database part. The user-side terminal has a means to transmit information for identifying software to the maintenance center. The maintenance center has a means to store the information transmitted from the user-side terminal in the database part and a means to select users needing maintenance from the database part and to transmit information to the user-side terminal to the effect that maintenance is to be executed.
