PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk cartridge and a disk drive apparatus which have a simple structure and are improved to identify various types of disk cartridges. SOLUTION: In the disk cartridge and the disk drive apparatus, the disk cartridge is provided with a reflection part for identifying the kind of disk, and the disk drive apparatus is provided with a photodetector for identifying the type of disk by irradiating the reflection part with light and detecting reflected light. Thereby, a large number of identifying marks with which the type of disk can be identified, can be given while changing a reflective angle and a quantity of reflected light of the reflection part provided in the disk cartridge. Thus, not only the capacity of a disk but various kinds of disk types such as the kind of product and the type of disk formatting, can be identified.
