The tree segments of the optical path traveled by rays, is calculated using mathematical model of initial lens with given prescription. A lens with surface equivalent to the initial lens is determined, and the other surface of the lens is calculated by tracing the rays through equivalent lens and determining the point of intersection with other equivalent surface. An independent claim is also included for ophthalmic lens.
