PURPOSE: A black matrix for a liquid crystal display and a color filter are provided to control the etching rate in patterning to be equal to the etching rate of metal chromium film, and to improve acid, alkali, heat and water resistance during color filter manufacturing process. CONSTITUTION: A black matrix is formed by stacking a light shielding layer(2) on a transparent substrate(1) or staking the light shielding layer on a low reflecting film(3) formed in the transparent substrate. The light shielding layer is formed on the top of the black matrix. The light shielding layer and the low reflecting film are formed in the transparent substrate. The light shielding layer is composed of nickel of 40 to 80 wt.%, molybdenum of 10 to 59 wt.%, tantalum + niobium of 0.5 to 8 wt.%, iron + aluminum of 0.5 to 10 wt.%, and zirconium of 0 to 7 wt.%. The etching rate in patterning is controlled to be the same level as the etching rate of the metal chromium film. Acid resistance, alkali resistance, heat resistance and water resistance are improved during manufacturing process of the color filter.
