<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the properties of treated water after a series of nitrification and denitrification treatment while preventing cost increase due to the outflow of microorganism-immobilized particulate carriers. <P>SOLUTION: The nitrification treatment is performed highly efficiently in a nitrification tank 4 by nitrifying bacteria highly efficiently stuck to the microorganism-immobilized particulate carrier 6, and each treated water from the nitrification tank 4/a denitrification tank 1 is subjected to solid-liquid separation in a solid-liquid separation tank 5 or 3. Each separated solid which has been separated and collected (the microorganism-immobilized particulate carriers 6 on the nitrification side, and sludge on the denitrification side) is returned to the preceding nitrification tank 4/denitrification tank 1, thereby the bacteria concentration in the nitrification tank 4/the denitrification tank 1 is kept high. Each separated treated water from the solid-liquid separation tanks 5, 3 is supplied to the subsequent treatment line, which prevents the separated solid containing bacteria from flowing out to the subsequent stage. The contamination of the bacteria etc. into the treated water supplied to the subsequent stage from the apparatus 100 is prevented while preventing the contamination of denitrifying bacteria into the nitrification tank 4 and the contamination of the nitrifying bacteria into the denitrification tank 1.
