PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zirconium oxide compact excellent in electric conductivity, strength, fracture toughness and wear resistance, and sliding characteristics, and provide a method for producing the compact. SOLUTION: The zirconium oxide sintered compact features the matrix of zirconium oxide, in which conductivity-imparting particles having amorphous layers of which the surfaces contain oxygen are dispersed. The method for producing the zirconium oxide sintered compact is as follows: the conductivity- imparting particles are calcined in an oxidizing atmosphere, thereby the amorphous layers are formed in the surfaces of the particles, thereafter the calcined particles are mixed with zirconium oxide powder, and the mixture is formed and sintered. |
