The present invention relates to a cutting tool for (10; 20; 30; 40) for machining wood having a steel base (11; 21; 31; 41) with a predetermined material toughness. The steel base has a cutting side (13; 23; 33; 43) and release side (12; 22; 32; 42). The cutting tool comprises a diffusion gradient of an alloy substance belonging to any of the group: carbon, carbon nitride, nitride, boron and boron compounds, extending inwards from at least the surface of the cutting side (13; 23; 33; 43) to provide a material hardness of more than 850 HV. The invention is also related to a method for manufacturing a cutting tool and a wood cutting apparatus including one or more cutting tools.
