PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional optical amplifier used for ensuring a system loss budget equivalent to the TDM-PON of related technology in WDM/TDM-PON, while allowing high energy utilization efficiency, and compaction by reduction in the number of components.SOLUTION: A bidirectional optical amplifier according to the present invention includes a first doped fiber for pre-amplifying burst optical signals, transmitted from a plurality of subscriber devices, by the exciting light generated from an excitation light source, and a second doped fiber for post-amplifying a continuous optical signals, having a wavelength range different from the burst optical signals and transmitted from the station side device, by the residual exciting light out of the exciting light consumed by pre-amplification.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 |
