PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automate the meter reading of power, gas, water or the like. SOLUTION: A broadcasting device 1 transmits a broadcasting signal through a communication satellite 2. The broadcasting device 1 also transmits an automatic meter reading system signal multiplexed on the broadcasting signal according to the request from an electric power company, gas company, or water department. A receiving device 4 receives the broadcasting signal, extracts the automatic meter reading system signal from the broadcasting signal in addition to a general function for outputting a resulting video signal and audio signal to a monitor 5, instructs the meter reading to an electric power meter 6, a gas meter 7, and a water meter 8 connected thereto in conformation to this signal, and transmits the returned meter read values to the broadcasting device 1 through a public telephone network 9. |
