PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintering method for obtaining silicon nitride ceramics causing no weight loss when sintered, uniform in quality and high in strength. SOLUTION: A sintering aid is added to silicon nitride powder, which is then wet-mixed and compacted to obtain a compact to be sintered. The obtained compact is imbedded in a powdery mixture of silicon nitride and silica, a powdery mixture of silicon nitride, silica and boron nitride functioning as a dispersing material or in silicon oxynitride powder, or the powdery mixtures are disposed around the compact, which are then sintered in a nitrogen gas atmosphere under normal or compressed pressure. |
