Copper phthalocyanines are obtained by reacting preferably at temperatures up to 330‹ C., a phthalonitrile with a copper salt in a solvent which is inert under the reaction conditions, wherein 4À1 to 4À8 moles of the phthalonitrile per gram atom of copper in the copper salt is used. Reactions at temperatures up to 220‹ C. are preferably carried out under atmospheric pressure while reactions above this temperature are carried out under superatmospheric pressure. The reaction may be carried out continuously or batchwise. Examples are given for the production of copper phthalocyanine. |
