The ski brake consists of two blades (24) which are mounted one on each side of the ski (1) on the ends of a transverse shaft has a pinion which engages a rack (6) connected to a rod (12). The rod is connected to a spring which pulls the blades to the vertical position. The spring is released by the removal of the ski boot from the ski. The blades can be held in the vertical position when still being worn, by a catch (20) with a tip which fits into a hole (29) in the rack (6). This enables the blades to be held in the braking position so that when climbing steep slopes the skier is prevented from slipping backwards.
