PURPOSE:To measure a hot metal level in a torpedo ladle car with high accuracy by a microwave level meter, by executing the winding-up and winding-down of a weight by following a variation of the hot metal level, and detecting its winding amount. CONSTITUTION:A weight 9 made of silicon carbide is attached to the tip of a chain 8 which has been wound to a chain drum 7, and this weight 9 is hung down to a metal receiving port 4a of a metal mixing car 4 which is receiving a metal from a window hole 5a through the chain 8, and made to arrive at a metal mixing surface. In this case, by a torque balance of a winding-up torque of the weight 9, which is generated by a torque motor 6, and a dropping torque caused by dead weight of the weight 9, both of them are balanced, and by following a variation of a hot metal level, winding-up and winding-down of the weight 9 are executed, a winding amount of the chain 8 is detected by a rotational position detector 10, and the hot metal level in the torpedo ladle car 4 is measured.
