The ultrasonic applicator comprises a drive motor (8), a crank drive (14), an ultrasonic transducer (10) in a holder (24) and an angle transmitter (12) which is mounted directly on the holder (24). A controller applies an oscillating voltage to the motor (8) in such a way that the ultrasonic transducer (10) rotates in the scanning region of, e.g., 90@ with a constant angular velocity. No special requirements are placed on the tolerances of the components, because the actual control value is measured directly at the oscillating ultrasonic transducer (10). <IMAGE>
