A recording fluid for the ink jet process contains a water-miscible organic solvent and a dye of the formula <IMAGE> where m is 0 or 1, D1 and D2 are each independently of the other the radical of a diazocomponent of the aniline series, R1 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl and R2 and R3 are each independently of the other a radical having an external basic group.
