PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having a substrate comprising an optical material and capable of enhancing mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The optical element 20 has a substrate 24A comprising an optical material. The substrate 24A has a convex part 21 having the function of a convex lens, a flat part 22 situated around the convex part 21 and a peripheral part 23 situated around the flat part 22. The thickness of the substrate 24A in the peripheral part 23 is larger than that in the flat part 22.
