The insulation stripping device uses relatively displaced cutting blades (15) for removing a required section of the outer insulating sheath (13) of the cable (12), each blade having two adjacent blade sections (18) with semi-circular cutting edges defined by notches, used to separate the insulation sheath along a peripheral line. The adjacent blade sections can be axially moved apart to allow the separated insulation sheath section to be removed from the cable. The blade sections have an adjacent pair of gripper elements (16) with interfitting teeth (23, 24) for gripping the cable, the removed cable sheath section displaced axially via a suction device (17). ADVANTAGE - Prevents damage to cable, e.g. optical fibre cable.
