PURPOSE: To produce a WC-base sintered hard alloy having excellent properties. CONSTITUTION: A powder mixture is prepared by blending and mixing a WC powder of <=1μm average grain size, a powder of a compound of one or >=2 metallic elements selected from the group consisting of the group IVa, Va, and VIa metals of the periodic table, excluding W, with C, and a binding metal powder consisting of one or >=2 iron group metals among Co, Ni, and Fe. This powder mixture is compacted, and the resulting green compact is sintered, by which the WC-base sintered hard alloy is produced. At this time, as the WC powder, the one having uniformized grain size distribution is used. By this method, cutting life can be prolonged even if cutting is done under severe conditions.
