PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating oil excellent in compatibility with hydrofluorocarbons (e.g. HFC-134a) and in hydrolysis stability by incorporating a polyalkylene glycol carbonate into the same. SOLUTION: A carbonic ester of formula I (X<1> is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, or a group of formula II; X<2> is alkyl, cycloalkyl, or a group of formula III; A<1> and A<2> are each 2-4C alkyl provided an ethylene group is always present; R<1> is alkyl or cycloalkyl; R<2> is H alkyl, or cycloalkyl; a and c are each 1-50; and b is 1-10) is used alone or is mixed with another lube base oil to give the objective lubricating oil. When the mixture is used, the carbonic ester in an amt. of at least 20 wt.% (based on the mixture) is mixed into a synthetic lube base oil (e.g. a paraffinic, naphthenic, or polyolefinic lube base oil) or a refrigerant base oil (e.g. a polyoxyalkylene glycol or a polyoxyalkylene glycol monoether). |
