PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based metallic coating composition which gives coating films having high appearances excellent in brightness even under high humidity conditions in comparison with conventional water-based coatings. SOLUTION: This water-based metallic coating composition characterized by containing a metallic pigment paste which is obtained by preliminarily dispersing a brilliant pigment and a polyether polyol having >=0.02 primary hydroxy group in the molecule and a water tolerance of >=2.0 in an organic solvent.
