PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition excellent in disperse stability and having high stability with time. SOLUTION: This detergent composition is obtained by emulsifying or dispersing a water-insoluble substance into water and comprises xanthan gum having 3.0-6.0 wt.% pyruvic acid group content in one molecule and >=75 wt.% purity.
