PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a free stop device for a sliding door, in which a contact member can be formed of an arbitrary material, and a sliding door device. SOLUTION: The main body 31 of the free stop device 30 is installed to the sliding door 1 guided by a guide rail 10, a roller 32 freely moved in the direction of the movement of the sliding door as the contact member brought into contact with the guide rail 10 and a leaf spring 33 as an elastic member arranged on the reverse side to the guide rail 10 to the roller 32 are housed in the main body 31, the roller 32 is pushed against the guide rail 10 by a projecting deformed section 33C to the guide rail 10 side by forming an intermediate section in the direction of the movement of the sliding door of the leaf spring 33 in the projecting deformed section 33C and the sliding door 1 is stopped at an arbitrary position.
