PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device for a metallic wire by which the deposits sticking on the metallic wire surely, rapidly and efficiently are removed by cleaning while weakening their adhesion. SOLUTION: The metallic wire P is made freely insertable in a traveling state in electrolytic cells 1 and 10 packed with an electrolyte. Electrode members 3 on one side of anode and cathode electrode members are disposed in the electrolytic cells 1 and 10 and electrode members 16 on the other side are disposed on the outside of the electrolytic cells 1 and 10. The electrode members 3 in the electrolytic cells 1 and 10 are energized and while the metallic wire P is directly energized across the external electrode members 16, the metallic wire is inserted in the traveling state and the metallic wire P is cleaned by the gas generated while the electrolyte in the electrolytic cells 1 and 10 is electrolyzed.
