Force sensor (1) has a first electrode (4) and a second electrode (9) that are electrically isolated by intermediate insulating bracing layer (10). When a force is applied to the first electrode (4) via a projection (6) the separation between it and the bracing layer and the second electrode increases with a measurable change in capacitance. The intermediate insulating layer is a dielectric that is insensitive to temperature.
