PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoreactive optically active compound (photoreactive chiral agent) having photosensitivity and capable of substantially changing helical pitch (twisting force) of a liquid crystal by light. SOLUTION: This photoreactive optically active compound is characterized in that the compound is represented by general formula (I) [wherein, R is a hydrogen atom, a 1-15C alkoxy group, an acryloyloxyalkyloxy group having 3-15 total carbons, or a methacryloyloxyalkyloxy group having 4-15 total carbons].
