PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus which has a simple constitution while suppressing a cost, and which accurately maintains the amount of intrusion of a wiper blade into a printhead, even if the height of the printhead is switched. SOLUTION: In this inkjet recording apparatus, a carriage, which holds the printhead and makes scanning performed in a main scanning direction, is supported by a main rail and a sub-rail, and has the function of switching a gap between a recording medium and the printhead. The inkjet recording apparatus is provided with a first sub-rail which performs the positioning of an OH distance (distance the printhead and paper), and a second sub-rail which performs the positioning of a distance (the amount of intrusion) between the wiper blade and the printhead. In a printing area, the carriage is supported by the main rail and the first sub-rail. In a carriage recovery position, the carriage is supported by the main rail and the second sub-rail.
