A scissor type gate valve is provided to lightly and accurately manipulate a handle by contacting and expanding communication holes formed in two opening/closing plates. In a scissor type gate valve, a central shaft is connected to a cross point where extending pieces overlap to expand or contract communication holes formed in two opening/closing plates(3,4). Operation members(7,8) for operating the two opening/closing plates are connected to ends of the extending pieces by shaft pins(9). An elevation rod(10) is connected to the other sides of the operation member by a shaft pin. A left screw hole(14) and a shaft hole are formed at a central portion of the elevation rod. The elevation rod penetrates a support member(12) installed in an operation cover. The two opening/closing plates are operated by lifting and lowering the elevation rod by the rotation of a drive shaft.
