PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus having superior tone characteristics and a method for evaluating tone characteristics which enables the image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: A lightness tone curve is obtained from a set tone conversion curve, and a smoothing curve is obtained in a range of approximately 1/10 the number of tones, whereby it is judged whether or not a maximum absolute value of a difference between the tone curve and the smoothing curve is not larger than 1 (preferably 0.6). The lightness tone curve is obtained from the set tone conversion curve, and the smoothing curve is obtained in the range of approximately 1/10 the number of tones, whereby it is judged whether or not a maximum absolute value of a first-order differential value of a curve of the difference between the tone curve and the smoothing curve is not larger than 100 (preferably 60). The tone curve is obtained from the set tone conversion curve, and a smoothing curve is obtained in a range of approximately 1/100 the number of tones as well as the smoothing curve in the range of approximately 1/10 the number of tones, whereby it is judged whether or not a maximum absolute value of a first-order differential value of a curve of a difference of two curves is not larger than 100 (preferably 60). At least one of the judgments is carried out, whereby tone characteristics of the ink-jet recording apparatus 40 can be evaluated appropriately. |
