PURPOSE:To improve cut surfaces and to obviate the generation of variations in the cut end faces by arranging spacers having a thickness of nearly the same size as the diameter of optical fibers between an elastic material and a clamping base on both sides of arrangement of the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the optical fibers 1 are arranged in parallel on the clamping base 2 and the spacers 5 made of metal, such as aluminum, having nearly the same thickness as the diameter of the optical fibers are arranged on both sides thereof. The spacing between the spacers 5 and the optical fibers 1 at both ends is preferably made nearly equal to the arranging pitch of the optical fibers 1. The optical fibers 1 arranged in such a manner are pressed and clamped by a clamp hold-down 3 mounted with the elastic material 4 on the inner side from above the fibers. The elastic deformation of the elastic material on the optical fibers existing at both ends in such clamping method is similar to the other optical fibers as well and the entire number of the optical fibers 1 is eventually clamped under the same conditions.
