PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup for recording which can solve the problem about the layout design of an optical system including a monitor photodetector and which is sufficiently small in size and also to provide an optical disk drive. SOLUTION: This optical pickup is used for the optical disk drive which irradiates optical disks 15 and 16 with light beams to record or reproduce digital signals. The optical pickup is provided with a light source 6 which emits the light beams, an objective lens 14 which guides the light beams onto the disks 15 and 16, an optical part 22 which exists among the optical paths of light beams and transmits or reflects these beams to emit them into the optical paths and a monitor photodetector 17 which monitors intensity of the light beams. The parts 22 and photodetector 17 are laid out so that the light beams are guided from the parts 22 to the photodetector 17. |
