PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion device capable of performing a smooth water heating operation while preventing a damage of an exhaust gas cylinder through high temperature combustion exhaust gas by detecting the exhaust gas temperature of the combustion exhaust gas discharged out of the water heater.SOLUTION: This invention comprises a water heater 1 having a combustion part 10 and heat exchanging parts 11, 12; an exhaust cylinder 31; an exhaust gas temperature detecting part 33 for detecting exhaust gas temperature of combustion exhaust gas; a varying cause temperature detecting part 5 for detecting the varying cause temperature for varying exhaust gas temperature; and a control part C. When the exhaust gas temperature is equal to or higher than its allowable exhaust gas temperature during water heating operation, the maximum capacity of the water heater 1 is limited to a corrected maximum capacity of lower combustion amount than the present maximum capacity, water heating operation is continued, it is judged whether or not the varying cause temperature is lowered by a reference cause temperature from the varying cause temperature before limitation during continuation of the water heating operation in which the maximum capacity of the water heater 1 is restricted to the corrected maximum capacity and then the maximum capacity of the water heater 1 at the time of starting a next time water heating operation is set.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
