PHOTOCATALYTICALLY-REGENERATED ABSORBENT COMPOSITE MATERIAL DERIVED FROM WASTED-TYRE PYROLYTIC CARBON AND TIO2-N,F DEPOSITION FOR PHENOL SORPTION-DEGRADATION (PHO.RE.CA)

Novelty: a new composite absorbent photocatalytically-regenerated (self-cleaned) material prepared with wasted tyres pyrolytic carbon and TiO2 modified with nitrogen and fluorine (Ti02-N,F) is disclosed. Purpose: to remove phenol from waters. 3-stage production process: 1) cleaning of the material΄s surface from metal and organic leftovers with acid; 2) TiO2 deposition on the surface of the pyrolytic carbon via the sol-gel technique; 3) final heating of the material at 110 deg. Celcius. The final product is incorporated to a unified stable structure having the form of powder, which powder will be dispersed in water to form a stable suspension from which it will be easily separated either by filtering or by centrifugation (mere use of the common laboratory centrifugal force). The resulted material can be regenerated by solar radiation. Optimal efficiency: removal of at least 73.3 mg of phenol from 1gr of material in an aqueous solution; the material can be completely regenerated with no reduction of its adsorption capability upon dispersion of the material in waters and exposure of the same to solar radiation (irradiation) for 12 hours; it preserves at least 75% of its adsorption capability during three adsorption-photocatalysis cycles (re-utilizations).
