Diuretic and saluretic pyridopyrimidines

Diuretic and saluretic pyridopyrimidines. Title cpds. of formula (I) (where R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, aralkyl, or aryl opt. substd. by -OH, -COOH, -COO alkyl or -CONH2) and their salts are prepd. by reacting a 2-X-pyrido 2,3-d pyrimidin-4(3H)-one with R-Y (where one of X and Y is SH and the other is a reactive ester group) or by partially hydrolysing a 2,4-bis (SR)-pyrido 2,3-d pyrimidine. Used in the prepn. of pharmaceuticals.
