The invention relates to a connection of steel pipes, with an external continuous polyurethane foam layer and a fiber reinforced polyester or epoxy resin, or polyethylene tape covering layer. The polyethylene covering layer is obtained by wrapping polyethylene tape of 170 DEG C around the foam plastic, whereby overlapping parts are completely heat sealed to each other. The covering layer engages sealingly the outer surface of the steel pipe by means of a protective thermoplastic or thermosetting layer.
