A conical inverted funnel shaped baffle positioned above the central inlet of a gas burner (1) deflects incoming fuel gas toward flash-tube-charge-and ignition porting in a side wall of the burner and (2) delays fuel gas en route to the main burner ports by throttling a central portion of the gas flow and diverting peripheral portions of the gas flow around the lower edge portions of the baffle.
