The invention relates to an apparatus for packaging in groups of a plurality of garments 1 stored in a hanging manner on respective clothes-hangers 2 by means of a common foil covering, with a connecting station 6 preceding a foil-covering station and intended for connecting the clothes-hangers 2 carrying the garments 1. In order to make a connection of a plurality of garments 1 stored in a hanging manner which is safe for transport purposes, whilst at the same time the number of garments 1 to be packaged together is to be variable as desired, it is proposed, by means of the invention, that the connecting station 6 be preceded by a computer-controlled counting-off and metering station 5, in which the desired number of clothes-hangers 2 to be connected to one another can be set from a continuous stream of garments 1 stored in a hanging manner, and that the connecting station 6 applies in a computer-controlled manner to the clothes-hangers 2 fed in groups and in a row one behind the other on a feed rod 4 a strip-shaped common connecting element which connects these firmly to one another and which can be released again. <IMAGE>
